The universities in the Netherlands have nominated 27 startups for the Academic Startup Competition 2019. Arthrosave, Elevate Health and Dialogue Trainer, 3 spin-offs of Utrecht Holdings and UU/UMCU, are nominated. Together with the other nominees, they aim to reach a place in the top ten of the most pioneering Innovations of science in the Netherlands.
The Academic Startup Competition is an initiative of VSNU, the Netherlands Academy of Technology and Innovation (AcTI) and StartupDelta. The election consists a nomination by the universities and a final in which a jury ultimately chooses the winners who become part of the list of the most pioneering innovations in science in the Netherlands. During the Global Entrepreneurship Summit (GES) in June, 4th and 5th in The Hague, these startups will also have the opportunity to present their startup to a world audience.
With the election, the organization puts international valorization in the spotlight internationally. Jorrit Kuipers, member of the AcTI board: “Academic startups are extremely important for the Netherlands because of their innovative breakthroughs they have created an impact on society in all sorts of ways. But knowledge alone is not enough, you also need entrepreneurship to market this knowledge. The selected startups are all good examples of how science and entrepreneurship can reinforce each other and the proof that Dutch universities produce wonderful (deep) tech companies. ”
The ten final winners who are allowed to present themselves at the Global Entrepeneurship Summit (GES) in June the 4th and 5th will be determined on May the 14th in the Epicenter in Amsterdam by a jury of experts, consisting of Betsy Lindsey, Director Investor Relations HighTechXL, Kees de Koning, Supervisory Board Innovationquarter, Dennis Schipper, managing director Demcon, Margot Weijnen, professor TU Delft, Emile Aarts, Jos Nelissen, founder Newtricious, Eline Vrijland, Founder Nightbalance, Alberto Prado, Philip Healthworks and Fiona Maclaughlin, Director Inkef Capital
