Spinning out an invention starts with the question:  How can we make this matter to society? Research innovations typically start out as just that: research. To determine how people outside of our institutions can benefit from the discoveries, we need to plan for impact.

Apply for a Patent

Protecting an invention is crucial. Investors require reassurance that the invention will be safe for investments. A patent grants this reassurance. 

Utrecht Holdings files many patents each year. We can support you.

Obtain a License

Once the invention is protected, Utrecht Holdings is responsible for licensing the IP to third parties. This can be a spin-off company, or an existing company in the field. The end goal will be the same: To maximize the impact of the invention and truly make it matter to society.

Get Funded

Utrecht Holdings has two ways by which we provide funding:

1. By means of the Make It Matter Voucher Program.
2. Via the Utrecht Holdings Seed Fund, the Venture Capital fund of Utrecht University and UMC Utrecht.
