The press release:

Utrecht, Netherlands and Mühlheim a.d.D., Germany (September 22, 2022) – Utrecht University and Rita Leibinger GmbH & Co. KG proudly announce the signing of a license agreement for the new 3D HIP Titanium Implant.

Utrecht University and RITA LEIBINGER recently signed into agreement the commercialization of the new 3D HIP Titanium Implants (patented), a first-of-its-kind patient-specific 3D-printed shelf implant for the treatment of naturally occurring and residual hip dysplasia in dogs.

To be endorsed as the least invasive and least traumatic, but most effective treatment for Canine Hip Dysplasia in the market, 3D HIP offers a much safer and more feasible alternative to the gold standard Triple Pelvic Osteotomy (TPO) and Double Pelvic Osteotomy (DPO) treatments.

This personalized shelf implant is custom fitted for each patient based on CT scans, with holes for locking screws integrated in pre-planned positions. Pre-surgery analysis and testing via motion simulations further ensures precise fit and positioning of the shelf implant, resulting to higher success rates, low complications, rapid recovery, and high joint stability.

Made of Titanium, 3D HIP has the advantage of superior biocompatibility, which promotes faster bone healing and limits uncontrolled bone proliferation. Pre-planned in 3D, and therefore not entirely dependent on the intraoperative experience of orthopedic surgeons, the 3D HIP Technique requires only a short learning curve due to its simplicity and its technologically driven approach.
